Our Approach to Effective Treatment and Testing

Balance Testing with a Balance Plate Device CAPS®

Testing ones balance with our special balance plate called a CAPS® Professional is essential in determining fall risk, brain function (including post concussion effects), and overall health. From the young athlete to the aging adult (and everyone in between) getting our balance checked should be part of an annual exam and whether or not treatment being applied is effective. Treatment can be chiropractic care, physical therapy, or even medication.

With the CAPS® Professional you can observe and evaluate in "real time" the effects of the treatments you are getting at your clinic.

The control of posture and balance, i.e. postural control, necessitates a complex interaction of sensory (sensors in the joint that communicate to the balance centers of the brain), motor (muscle) and central nervous system (brain) processes. The sensory aspect involves vestibular (inner ear), visual (eye), proprioceptive and somatosensory sensors in our joints, skin, and muscles. The motor aspects include not only the principal skeletal muscles but to a lesser extent almost every muscle in the body. Essential elements of the CAPS® include the ability to actively adjust posture or balance, and evaluate the subject's response to such treatments [1]. Feeling better and having healthy balance bring together effective results you.

Saccades aka Quick Eye Movement Testing

Moving your eyes from on target to another requires a number of computations in the brain for this to occur. Healthy quick eye movement is all about accuracy and getting the eye to the projected target. We use a device called a Saccadometer which measures accuracy, speed, reaction timing, and how smooth the eyes move to the target. This device gives us a good representation of brain and balance data in our approach to treatment. Pre and post testing with a Saccadometer allows us to know if treatments are effective and how much you are improving in the areas of balance, visualization of your surroundings, and overall brain function with the eyes. This has been used to test and improve athletes accuracy in movement and speed. Saccadometer testing is utilized widely in the treatment of concussions and overall brain health.
