HANDS ON CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENTS

There are many techniques a Chiropractor may use for a spinal manipulation. At our office, we use the diversified chiropractic technique. This technique is the most commonly used of all chiropractic techniques and is the one probably most familiar to patients. The diversified manipulation/adjustment generally results in the popping sound as the chiropractor makes a manual adjustment to correct misaligned or subluxated spinal segments of the neck or back. No instruments are used during this process.

TRACTION/INTERSEGMENTAL TRACTION

Traction/Intersegmental Traction therapy is an effective chiropractic therapy that induces passive motion into the spine for the purpose of stretching spinal joints and increasing mobility. It helps to gently and effectively reestablish normal range of motion into your spine. It also facilitates muscle relaxation to significantly reduce muscle spasms. Intersegmental Traction Therapy benefits include: - Increased blood flow and oxygen to the spinal discs, ligaments, and the muscles. - Significantly accelerated recovery progress from a back injury (through regular use of the intersegmental traction table). - Reduced muscle spasms that can be caused by weakened postural muscles or spinal injuries.

ELECTRIC MUSCLE STIMULATION

Electrical Muscle Stimulation is an exceptional way to help the body in the healing process. This is accomplished by sending a very small electrical current into the affected soft tissue injury or muscle spasm. The therapy utilizes this current in an effort to help reduce swelling and release trigger points that may have the muscle locked up. It does this by helping the body to release natural relievers of pain, often referred to as endorphins.

This is a great therapy if there is a spasm in a back or neck muscle. It works well in relaxing the muscle and allowing it to return to its normal state rather quickly. Short therapy sessions are excellent at facilitating healing from acute and chronic pain.

TRIGGER POINT/MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

What is Rockblade Therapy?

Over time in our bodies, minor injuries and trauma form adhesions within the fascia surrounding the muscle. These adhesions cause our muscles and deeper tissues to not move as well.  If adhesions form along nerve paths then nerve irritation can occur. Rockblading, or any instrument-assisted soft tissue works, works by reducing adhesions within the fascia and increases healing rates of targeted tissue.  This occurs by the clinician applying longitudinal pressure along the course of a tissue.  The tools facilitate the clinician’s ability to detect altered tissue properties, as well as facilitate the patient’s awareness of altered sensations within the treated tissues.

Benefits of Rockblade Therapy:

-Corrects muscle imbalances -Improves joint range of motion -Relieve muscle soreness and joint stress -Increases sensitization to the area treated -Improves tissue healing/blood flow to an area Call our office in regards to setting up an appointment for a Rockblading session!

ICE/HEAT

Despite the simplicity of heat and cold therapies, the two (in correct combination) can help relieve low back pain, muscle strains, and even arthritis.

Heat Therapy Benefits: - Applying heat to your tissues increases your circulation or blood flow and causes your connective tissue to become more flexible. - Helps reduce joint stiffness, pain and muscle spasms - Helps with bringing down inflammation and congestion in your tissues.

Cold Therapy Benefits: - Vasoconstriction of your blood vessels causes a reduction in the blood volume to the site of your injury, resulting in reduced swelling. - Vasoconstriction also decrease the likelihood that your cells will die due to lack of oxygen.

FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT ASSESMENTS WITH EXERCISE

With functional movement assessments, a 30 minute evaluation focused on screening an individual’s quality of movement. This screening tool will help to identify common flaws in biomechanics and underlying weakness and instability of joint systems. This is extremely important for anyone who is looking to enter or re-enter the exercise world either for the first time or after an injury. Also imperative for all athletes who are frequently nagged by injuries. It is best to perform this when the person is not in pain.

BACK PAIN TREATMENTS

Back pain is an unfortunate problem for many individuals throughout the Sterling, VA, area. At Cascades Chiropractic Wellness Center, our Dr. Jason Winseck is looking to change that. Our practitioner offers a number of treatments to ease both acute and chronic pain. In some cases, it's used to facilitate the healing process, while in others it's to manage it more effectively.

Causes of Back Pain

Back pain may be temporary or long-term. For some people, it's an indefinite part of their lives.

Some people develop back pain from repeated stress on the area. Others suffer from it from an injury, possibly from a sports-related, automobile accident, or another personal injury.

In some patients, the pain is from a chronic condition such as degenerative disc disease, arthritis, or fibromyalgia.

Diagnosing the Problem

At our Sterling, VA, practice, our practitioner takes all the necessary steps to ensure you're given the correct treatments that are most beneficial for you.

The first part of the exam consists of you filling out a medical history report. You then will speak to our practitioner and identify when you experience pain, what worsens it, and what other symptoms you have. Our practitioner may assess your gait or range of motion in that particular area. During your examination, our chiropractor will look for tender, swollen, or tight areas around the region where you're experiencing pain.

In some cases, our chiropractic specialist will request you undergo an X-ray, so we can either rule out causes or determine the root of your back pain.

Treating Your Back Pain

At our practice, our practitioner will provide you with a treatment plan geared toward helping you recover or to better manage your condition. Our practitioner may include exercise therapy as one of your treatments. During this approach, our practitioner will guide you through stretches that gently work the area. They encourage blood flow to promote healing and loosen up your soft tissue to help with flexibility in the area.

Sometimes, we may recommend spinal adjustments, which optimize nerve function throughout your back.

We also offer a variety of other treatments, like spinal decompression, massage therapy, and cold laser therapy to better manage your pain.

No matter what treatments you receive, we make sure we keep your overall health and the cause of the pain in mind.

At Cascades Chiropractic Wellness Center, serving Sterling, VA, and the nearby region, Dr. Winseck helps our patients manage their back pain through natural means. We can offer a variety of modalities and alter your plan as needed to ensure you receive the highest level of results.

CUSTOM FOOT ORTHOTICS

foot_orthotics

Orthotics are a great way to help with issues related to walking and alignment. Some of these include but are not limited to knee, foot and lower back pain. The need for orthotics is often related to an issue with the natural functioning of the foot. Orthotics will often help to realign the bones within the food and ankle and therefore take pressure of other parts of the body such as the back, neck, shoulders, and hips. In addition, orthotics will help with distributing your weight properly and take further pressure off of toes, bunions, and other parts of the foot.

Orthotics are really for anyone with an issue or discomfort relating to walking or imbalances in the body that are known to cause related pain. The great benefit of orthotics is that they can be worn on a daily basis and be utilized during most activities to take further stress off the body.

Orthotics can often be prescribed by your chiropractor and can last well over a year in most cases. This is a great investment into your overall health and well being via a biomechanical standpoint.
